About Syd

Picture
Syd Caldera is an Rhode Island artist with Oklahoma roots who ping pongs between love of acoustic guitar, 90s drums, and the sickest of bass lines. Her upcoming release references her teenage roots in the grit hardcore DIY scenes where she grew up in Oklahoma, and was recorded in NYC with engineers  Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor) and Irving Gadoury (Jocelyn MacKenzie, Megan Thee Stallion, Emily King), bass player Bryan Percivall and drummer Chris Holdridge (Garth, Britney Spears, Verite). Self-recorded in various apartment studios in Brooklyn, NY, Hasta La Bye Bye, her 2019 release is a reflection on her process of finding and maintaining serenity and mental health while establishing a life in NYC. Her 2021 release, the What Feels Good EP, was recorded in part at the Beach Hut Recording Studio in Rockaway Park, Queens (RIP), with producer / mixer Ben Deixler, as well as at Ben's home studio, Trudie Studios, and features such artists as Jocelyn MacKenzie (Pearl and the Beard), Aidan Boardman (anguid), and Dylan Awalt-Conley (More Tongues Than Teeth). The EP's four songs each represent Syd's opening up to the world, to people, and to love. Over the course of the shelter-in-place phenomenon of 2020, Syd wrote and produced a song a day in her Brooklyn apartment. From that endeavor emerged a second collaboration with sound designer and keyboardist Jonah Wei-Haas, Lofi Seltzer Revolution Sumer. In 2022, Syd released her premier music video "Double Life," directed by Holle Singer and shot by Shane Sigler. Photographs by Sonya Farrell.
